For decades, when babies were unable to process mother’s breast milk, those mothers turned to formula. But what happens when babies can’t digest regular cow’s milk or soymilk based formulas either? That’s why Sammy’s mom researched formula recipes until the perfect goat’s milk based formula recipe became Sammy’s Milk. Why goat’s milk is better than cow’s milk based formula? Here are the top reasons we chose goat milk.
Why goat’s milk? Goat’s milk is more easily digestible than cow’s milk. Unlike cow’s milk, there is no agglutinin in goat’s milk. Fat doesn’t cluster together without agglutinin, making it easier to digest. Both milks are low in essential fatty acids. However, goat’s milk contains more linoleic and arachnodonic of the essential fatty acids than cow’s milk. There are more of short-and medium-chain fatty acids than long-chain fatty acids. Short-chain fatty acids are easier for intestinal enzymes to digest.

Goat’s Milk is Easier to Digest
A baby’s stomach acid breaks down milk and formula into curds. Goat’s milk protein forms a softer curd. This is another way goat’s milk are more easily and rapidly digestible. Infants and toddlers who regurgitate cow’s milk benefit from the faster transition through the stomach. This is an important way we feel goat’s milk is better for babies’ sensitive stomachs.
Goat’s Milk Triggers Less Sensitivities
Goat’s milk is also an advantage to babies with sensitivities to allergens. There are only trace amounts of the common allergen casein protein, alpha-S1 which is more plentiful in cow’s milk. The casein in goat’s milk is different from that in Cow’s milk. It is more similar to human milk. Both goat’s milk and cow’s milk contain similar amounts of another allergen protein beta-lactoglobulin. There are not sufficient scientific studies on the difference in child reactions to the different milk, but there is lots of feedback from mothers, who are sensitive to their baby’s reactions and digestive issues.
There is slightly less lactose in goat’s milk than in cow’s milk. While this may make no difference in babies with allergies, it can make an enormous difference in lactose intolerant children.
The Mineral Difference
Baby’s nutritional needs don’t stop with proteins and fats. Like grownups, babies need a variety of vitamins and minerals too, but in different amounts than grownups. Goat’s milk has 13% more calcium than cow’s milk, 25% more vitamin B-6 than cow’s milk. Goat’s milk has 47% more vitamin A than cow’s milk and 134% more potassium than cow’s milk . Stunningly, goat’s milk has three times the niacin and four times the copper found in cow’s milk. The selenium is 27% higher in goat’s milk than in cow’s milk. On the other hand, Vitamin B-12 is five times as high in cow’s milk as in goat’s milk. Folic acid is ten times as high in cow’s milk as in goat’s milk.
