Our Top 10 Favorite Infant & Toddler Books

Back to school September conjures up images of books. We have our favorite infant and toddler books but also checked others to see if we were missing good ones.  Many of NPR favorites were a little old for infants and toddlers. Barnes and Noble top suggestions offered more baby and toddler friendly selections.  Amazon has a most wished for list.  At Sammy’s Milk, we agree with several of theirs and but have a few child approved favorites of our own.  Here is our top ten baby and toddler books we love reading while our favorite munchkins relax with a bottle of Sammy’s Milk or bedtime water.  Let us know your favorites to add to the list.

1.Baby Faces by Kate Merrit

This Baby Faces book about baby’s many moods is part of an Indestructibles series.  It is waterproof, rip proof, and ASTM safe.  Babies can chew on it, drool on it and bang it around.  Its tightly woven material with cute, bright baby illustrations and few words can be washed up and is ready to go again. Recommended for ages 0 – 2 years

2.Lamaze: Mirror & Me Feelings; Cottage Door Press

In another book exploring emotions, this book has a little mirror to intrigue your child.  Both babies and toddlers will love exploring the animal friend pages.  As they get older, there are triggers like Act silly like a giraffe, look surprised like a monkey and pretend to sleep like a koala.  The book teaches repetitive language patterns in an entertaining way for babies and toddlers.  It’s on the Good Housekeeping 30 best baby books list 2021.  Plus, did we mention it’s adorable? Recommended for ages 6 mos+

3.Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt

For nostalgic classic fun share this book with your little one.  The book is touch and feel, engaging babies while creating treasured memories for you.  Recommended for baby – 3 years.

4.Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise

This classic runs through a simple sleepy time routine of saying goodnight to all the familiar pictures and things in your kiddo’s environment.  It’s words sound out in a fun rhythm that kids love to hear again and again.  The book has remained a children’s favorite for years since it was unbanned by the New York Public Library by a librarian who didn’t enjoy it.  Recommended for baby – 4 years.

5.The very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

This book continues to be a beloved favorite of infants, toddlers and parents.  The illustrations are incredible, as are most of Eric Carle’s artwork.  But the caterpillar holes for wiggling little fingers.  Read as the hungry little caterpillar eats his way through the book only to transform into a beautiful butterfly.  I never get tired of this story, and love hearing it read by its author Eric Carle on YouTube.  Recommended for Baby – 3 years.

10. Ten Tiny Toes by Caroline Jayne Church

The toddler art is adorable in this book and the rhymes pulls you in for the ride.  It is a fun twist on head shoulders knees and toes.  Instead you’ll read about ears that wiggle and bellies that giggle as little ones learn about themselves.  Pure fun.  Recommended for Baby – 3 years.
