Goat milk is a great ingredient in formula for tots with sensitive tummies.  But there are some little known goat milk facts, things you never knew that we’d like to share with you.  For instance, did you know goat’s milk doesn’t require as much homogenization as cow’s milk. The reason milk is Homogenized is to change the size of fat globules to make them more uniform.  This makes them more evenly disbursed throughout the milk.  The fat will no longer rise to the top of the liquid or cling to the sides of the container. In goat’s milk, the small fat molecules do not separate and remain suspended in the cream.

Goat Milk Fact #2: Less Lactose in Goat Milk

You might already know that goat’s milk has less lactose than cow’s milk.  Did you know goat’s milk has 12% less lactose than cow’s milk and 41% less lactose than human milk?   Goat’s milk has some lactose, about 4.20% lactose, yet there is evidence suggesting people with milk lactose intolerance are able to tolerate goat’s milk. 

Goat Milk Fact #3: Easier to Digest than Cow’s Milk

Goat’s milk has features other than low lactose that make digestion easier.  There are more “prebiotic” carbohydrates, which nourish beneficial bacteria in our gut.  The name of these carbohydrates is oligosaccharides.  This is the same type of carbohydrate as what you find in human breast milk.  Goat’s milk also contains a different kind of protein that doesn’t cause allergic reactions, making it easier to digest for those sensitive or allergic to cow’s milk.

What?  Goat milk has higher levels of medium chain triglycerides (MCT).  Goat milk offers 35% MCT compared with 17% MCT in cow milk.  MCTs provide the body with energy without depositing the MCTs in the fatty tissue of the body.  They lower cholesterol by dissolving cholesterol and preventing those deposits.

Goat’s milk is used in skin creams partly because the skin absorbs it with less irritation and without bacterial buildup.  This is because the pH level of goat’s milk is similar to that of human pH level.
